My Favorite Romantic Movie Of All Time

Today, I watched the Korean movie “The Classic”, in Korean “Keulrasik” for like the zillionth time. The story line, cinematography and the background score, like always, has managed to keep me captivated throughout the duration of the entire movie. The film started showing provincial sceneries while the music which seemed so familiar but long forgotten, played in the background. It was peaceful and before long into the story, it would soothe even a turbulent soul.

The plot opens with the introduction of the ever so enchanting female lead who is alone in her house, clearing out the books inside the cabinet. As she is done, she grabs a box that contained a lot of letters and a diary. She goes onto explain that this box contained the memories of a love story , which might as well be a cliché for many, but for her, it was "a classic". It contained the remnants of the first love of her mother. The movie goes on to reveal two love stories at the same time :- the past and the present. The direction and cinematography was done so perfectly that at no point of time would we get confused as to which time-line was being followed in the movie. The transition was impeccable.  Watching the story of the past, anyone would wish that the same beautiful innocent romance would happen in their life too.

The connection between the two love stories was well- conceived. Even though the a fair amount of a fairy-tale ending was put in for good measure, for dreamers and believers in fate, this climax would add up to perfection. Yet, it is not without a sense of tragedy that the love story of the past would end. The only relief is that death is not the reason for the tragedy. The tragedy also stems from the love and innocence of the loving souls. The story retained the feeling of purity up to the end.

I am sorry but I really shouldn't put too much of the plot  in this blog. The ending is happy one. And it is the only romantic movie to make me cry till date. And that is why this movie has been my favorite romantic movie of all time ever since I saw it. I would rate this movie a 10 out of 10 .
